During the sterilization process, a black column migrates along a window to reach a pre-designated PASS point when exposed to appropriate levels of the three critical conditions of steam sterilization. 

The colour coding on the indicator instantly calls attention to the results. When conditions are satisfactory, the migration reaches the PASS (green) area.
